Thames Ditton Team Talk – Week 6

28 goals, battling spirit and thank you for your boot donations!

First U7 3v3 tournament at Colets….lots of fun!

Welcome to Thames Ditton Team Talk – week six.

A crisp October weekend brought 28 TDYFC goals across the reported matches, a home win for the U12 Blues, a brilliant comeback draw against top-of-the-table opposition for the U15 Cobras, an unbeaten run extended by our U16s, and a fantastic first home 3v3 tournament for our youngest players at Colets!

Thank you for your boot swap donations! 👟

A huge thank you to everyone who dropped off boots at Colets this weekend for the launch of the TDYFC Boot Swap. Thanks to your generosity, we now have a fantastic selection of boots ready to help players find the next size up, reduce waste, and keep football affordable for our club families. We will share details on how to browse and collect pairs very soon.

On the pitch

U16 Cobras – 3–1 win away at Old Rutlishians Youth Greens

The U16 Cobras continued their fantastic form with a hard-earned 3–1 away win at Old Rutlishians, extending their unbeaten start to the season. The team played with composure and authority throughout to bring home all three points.

U15 Cobras – 3–3 draw vs Bookham Colts Wizards

A cracking contest at Colets against the league leaders. The Cobras completely bossed the first half, playing lovely fluid football to lead 3–1 at half-time. Bookham mounted a strong second-half fightback to level the scores, but the boys showed immense character to dig in and earn a valuable point against top-of-the-table opposition. Player of the Match went to George, who was a menace in attack before selflessly stepping into goal when the team needed him!

U12 Blues – 4–2 win vs Molesey Juniors Panthers

A fine team display on a breezy morning at Colets! Rohan set the Blues on their way, coolly dispatching a penalty into the wind before Molesey levelled. In the second half, Jack netted a superb brace — including a brilliant lob over the goalkeeper — and Freddie added a fourth, with Jonty claiming the assist. A special mention to Jude for a fantastic debut in a very entertaining 4–2 win.

U12 Cobras – 0–6 loss away at AFC Kingston Youth

A tough morning on the road for the U12 Cobras against a clinical Kingston side. The boys kept battling hard throughout and will look to bounce back next time out.

U13 Cobras – 0–2 loss away at Gemini Athletic

The U13s made the short trip to Old Cranleighans for a hard-fought local derby. Despite falling behind in the first half, TD rallied strongly after the break, with Felix dominating midfield and driving the team forward. Kasper pulled off a string of superb saves in goal to keep us in the hunt, but Gemini held firm and added a late second on the break. A spirited display full of effort.

U10 Girls – 2–2 draw vs Walton Warriors U11 Blues

We have lift-off! An outstanding performance from the girls against an older U11 side. After conceding two early goals, the team stayed calm and showed incredible maturity to battle back. Aurelia sparked the comeback with a thumping volley into the roof of the net, before Isla scored her first goal for the club with a clinical poacher’s finish. Resolute defending and great covering across the pitch ensured a thoroughly deserved 2–2 draw. Super proud of every single player! 🙌

U9 Cobras – 5–3 win vs Teddington Athletic Stags

An exciting, end-to-end match at Colets that saw the Cobras claim a thrilling 5–3 win. Lucas opened the scoring and later added an astonishing long-range strike from inside his own half! Rupert finished off a flowing move from Arlo’s run, and Jack pounced on a loose ball after fine work from William. Baptiste settled any late nerves by racing through to slot home the fifth. Fantastic pressing and slick short passing throughout. 🐍

U9 Swans – 4–8 loss vs Teddington Athletic Lions

While the result was an 8–4 defeat, this was without question the Swans’ best performance of the season. The boys fought back to within three goals on multiple occasions and chased down every loose ball right to the final whistle, cheered on by an enthusiastic home crowd. Alaric netted twice, with Ralph and Toby also getting on the scoresheet. That first win is getting closer and closer! ⚽

U9 Blues – 6–10 loss vs AFC Kingston Youth Reds

A breathless, ten-goal spectacle for the U9 Blues in a high-scoring encounter against AFC Kingston. The boys showed tremendous attacking intent and scored six great goals of their own, continuing to battle hard from start to finish.

U11 Cobras – 3–8 loss vs Platform Sports Coaching Blues

A lively encounter against a sharp Platform Sports side. The Cobras got on the scoresheet three times and showed plenty of positive attacking moments, but the visitors proved clinical in front of goal.

U11 Blues – 0–1 loss vs Molesey Juniors Badgers

A desperately unlucky defeat in a tight local derby. The Blues dominated the match for long periods, creating numerous chances and repeatedly testing the Molesey keeper, only to be denied by the woodwork and goal-line clearances. An unfortunate penalty decided the match, but the team’s fighting spirit and resilience were second to none.

U8 Cobras – 1–4 loss away at A.F.C. Ewell Youth

A tough away morning for the U8s against strong opponents. The 4–1 scoreline was harsh on the Cobras, who hit the post three times! With a touch more luck in front of goal, the dynamic would have been very different. Brilliant effort, great heads-up attitude, and fantastic sportsmanship throughout. 👏💙

U7 Cobras – hosting their first 3v3 tournament!

A proud milestone for the club as TDYFC hosted its very first home 3v3 tournament at Colets! Our U7s welcomed Hersham Youth Eagles, Hersham Youth, and BMM Blues for a morning of non-stop, end-to-end football packed with goals, energy, and big smiles. As always at U7 level, scores are not recorded — the focus is firmly on having fun and learning the game.
