Week two round-up
Week two brought new kits, hard pitches, a few blisters, plenty of goals and some brilliant examples of teamwork and resilience across the club.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped distribute the new kits. It was fantastic to see so many players wearing their colours with pride this weekend. If your child needs the next size up, please let their coach know and we will arrange a replacement where possible.
On the pitch
U16 Cobras celebrated a memorable first-ever home match at Colets with a superb 4–2 win. A brilliant result and a landmark day for the team.
U13 Cobras may have lost their first home match, but there were lots of positives. They scored their first goal of the campaign in a higher league than last season and were right in the game for long periods. The scoreline did not reflect just how close the match was.
U12 Cobras edged an exciting match 3–2, while U12 Blues faced a tough home fixture, losing 1–6.
U11 Blues put in a spirited performance away at Esher, eventually losing 3–1. A superb free kick from Ailbe gave the team real hope of a late comeback. With another 10 minutes, the Blues might well have taken something from the match. Well done for battling right to the final whistle.
U11 Cobras narrowly lost 3–2 at home to Key Sports Vikings in a closely fought match against a strong side that beat them 2–0 last season.
The Cobras got off to the fastest possible start when Zavi scored inside the first five seconds — so quickly that even the coaches missed it! 😂 Key Sports responded to make it 1–1, before the Cobras went ahead again after a great cross from George C was finished by George Y, who was playing outfield.
Although the team found themselves under pressure at times, they showed real character to keep coming back into the game. A late Key Sports goal decided it, but there were so many positives to take from a fantastic effort. Well done, Cobras! 🐍
U9 Blues earned a hard-fought 2–1 away win against Esher Youth Kings. A terrific local-derby victory against a good Esher side.
U9 Cobras produced the comeback of the weekend, overturning a 4–1 deficit to beat Kilko Jets 5–4. An incredible turnaround and a superb example of tenacity — never give up!
U9 Swans had a tough away day against a very good side, losing 9–1. The boys showed excellent character to keep battling throughout and scored a brilliant team goal to celebrate.
U8 Cobras recorded an impressive 9–0 win. It was a brilliant scoreline, but even more importantly, a really strong team performance. The boys worked hard for one another from start to finish, showing great teamwork, support and determination.
And a special mention to our new U7 team, who played their first-ever 3v3 matches at Molesey on Saturday. There were lots of smiles, lots of fun and, by all accounts, some exhausted but elated players afterwards! Well done to Jonny for organising such a great first matchday.
Our youngest players are under way
It was also a big weekend for the next generation of TDYFC players.
Our Reception group held its first session, welcoming 16 new children as they began their football journey. Who remembers Cannonballs and Pirates? It does not seem that long ago! It was a fun session, full of energy and enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, more than 25 Year 1 children trained at Colets. A huge well done to James, their head coach, for running another fun and welcoming session.

A reminder that our official club sponsor, Douglas & Gordon, will donate £400 to Thames Ditton Youth Football Club for every property sale introduced through the club.

Help us launch the TDYFC boot swap
New boots can sometimes mean new blisters — and children often outgrow their football boots long before they are worn out.
We are looking for a few volunteers to help get our TDYFC boot swap up and running. It is a simple idea that can reduce waste, help families and make football a little more affordable. If you can spare some time to help organise collections, sort boots or support a swap session, please get in touch.
